Wiper Motor Replacement

When it’s raining and you’re driving, you want to be able to clear the windscreen of any water. If your wiper motor is broken or malfunctioning, it can lead to a potentially hazardous situation.

What is a wiper motor?

Your wiper motor is a small electric motor that is capable of different speeds. It is connected to your wipers and is controlled by your wiper controls on a stalk off of your steering wheel.

Why do you need a wiper motor?

Seeing as it powers your window wipers, you need it to move your window wipers across the windscreen when required. You need it to clear water and help you see in wet and wild conditions.

How to tell if you need a new wiper motor

If your window wipers don’t move at all when the switch is turned on, that’s a surefire sign. Other key identifiers include; wipers stuttering as they move, they won’t speed up as you increase the speed on your control. If any of these crop up then you most likely need a new wiper motor.

What’s involved in getting a wiper motor replaced

The mechanic will open the bonnet and locate the wiper motor. It’s usually under a cowling or covering just in front of the windscreen. They will then disconnect it from the wiring and wiper arm. They will inspect the motor, wiring, adapter, linkage and mounting. They will then fit the new wiper motor, linkages, wiring and adapters. The cowling and coverings will be refitted and the assembly tested at all speeds.

How much does a wiper motor cost near Seddon?

Most wiper motors aren’t expensive to replace. An easy to access and popular car will cost around $150. A bit more high tech motors can cost over $400

How often do I need a wiper motor replaced?

Only when your wipers start to play up. These little motors do a lot of work and are known to burn out, so don’t be surprised if it happens to yours.

Is a broken wiper motor unsafe?

If it means that your wipers don’t work when you need them to, then it’s a big deal. You want to be able to see at all times and if your wiper motor breaks then it’s something that you should get fixed as soon as possible.
