This regular safety check helps ensure that kiwis are safe on our roads. Whilst some countries don’t have an equivalent, due to the nature of New Zealand’s vehicle fleet (diversity and age) it’s a smart system. As it is required by law, we recommend getting one before your expiry date :)

Basic Service

Typically you should change your oil when you service your car, about once a year (or every 10,000km). If you have had other issues, it might pay to change your oil sooner.

Buying a second hand car can be a nervy process. Make sure you pick the right car and don’t get a “lemon” with a Pre purchase inspection. The mechanic will give it a “medical” and let you know the good and bad so you can buy with confidence

A mechanic will take up to an hour to investigate the issue, using all tools (including a digital scan tool) needed, to try and work out the problem. Once they have identified it, they'll get in touch with next steps and a quote to fix it. If it is taking longer than an hour to diagnose, they will speak to you before continuing.

The Air Con Condenser is generally found behind the front bumper (in front of the radiator within the engine bay) and in many cases, this will need to be removed to provide access for repair or replacement. Once located, the mechanic will inspect the system and complete a pressure check. Assuming the condenser requires replacement they will remove any gas in the system, replace the condenser, then re-gas the system to ensure it works properly.

AC Condenser Replacement

If your air con doesn’t blow cold when it should, then there’s a good chance that you need a re-gas. This should be carried out by a mechanic as it’s an important and possibly hazardous job. 

The mechanic will check the pressure of the system and determine the level of the refrigerant, before removing the gas. The other components of the system should be checked for any damage before adding new gas. Finally, a test of the system will be completed to ensure there are no leaks.

AC Re Gas

A failing Blower Motor will result in poor air pressure or airflow from the vehicle’s vents. Sometimes the Blower Motor will start making a grinding or whining noise shortly before giving up.

In most cases, the mechanic will remove the passenger side glove box and side panels within the passenger side footwell. The motor’s bolts are removed, electric power cables are disconnected, and the new motor is installed.   

Heater Fan Motor Replacement

If your a/c is blowing air but it’s not cold, then you might have a leak in the hose. A more telltale way to notice is if there’s obvious cracking or tears on the hose. A mechanic may pressure test your system and deduce that the leak is coming from the hose. 

AC High-Pressure Hose Replacement

Your mechanic will find the blower motor and resistor, the mechanic will remove the resistor and check for fried wiring. If this is fine they will simply replace the resistor, clip it into place and reconnect the power wiring. If not, the wires will need to be replaced.

The resistor is typically found in either the engine bay or glove box, and the mechanic will replace any other parts or panels they needed to remove to gain access.

Fan Speed Resistor Replacement

If you turn your AC dial and nothing happens then the relay might’ve failed. 

A replacement entails swapping out one relay for another and then testing the system.

AC Compressor Relay Replacement

The mechanic will have to remove all refrigerant and locate the pressure hoses and unscrew or unclip the switches from any connectors or wiring. They will then fit the new switches and reconnect all relevant wiring and refill the refrigerant liquid. The mechanic will then test the system and pay close attention to the compressor, as these are commonly damaged when the switches fail.


AC Pressure Switch Replacement

The mechanic will remove any remaining refrigeration gas and locate the low pressure hose. They will then remove the old hose and disconnect any switches or sensors and replace it with the new one. The system will be pressure tested and all sensors or switches will be reconnected. The system will be refilled with refrigeration gas and the system will be run to make sure everything is doing its job as it should.

AC Low-Pressure Hose Replacement

In order to complete a AC compressor replacement the mechanic will need to first remove all of the refrigerant from the system, ensuring that the system is no longer pressurised. They will then remove the serpentine belt and AC compressor clutch pulley. Once removed the clutch is unplugged and the refrigerant lines are disconnected from the compressor, before it can be replaced.

Following the installation of the new compressor the mechanic will need to re-gas the refrigerant throughout the entire system and ensure that the AC is working properly.

AC Compressor Replacement

The mechanic will drain the coolant and disconnect the hoses from the inlet and outlet sides of the cooling system. They will then inspect the heater core and fit the new pipes. They will then pressure test the coolant system and refill the coolant. The car will be run up to temperature and checked for leaks.

Heating & Air Con

The wheels are loosened and the car is hoisted up off the ground. The wheels are then removed and the brake pads are disconnected from the inside of the caliper. The piston’s inside the caliper are checked over and the new pads are fitted. The wheels are refitted and the car will be test driven to ‘bed in’ the brakes. Your Mechanic may suggest you need a rotor skim or rotor replacement. In the event your mechanic advises for a rotor skim or replacement your mechanic will get in touch with you directly.

Front Brake Pad Replacement

The mechanic will drain the braking system reservoir and fill it with new brake fluid. To complete a full system flush the vehicle will be raised on a hoist, where the mechanic can access the calipers and/ or brake drums. The flush is completed using a pressurized pump, which sucks the liquid through the system and draws the new liquid through from the reservoir. This is completed for each caliper or drum.

Once the flush is completed the mechanic will top up the reservoir, bleed the system to ensure there is no air trapped, and test drive the vehicle.

Rear Brake Pad Replacement

The wheels are loosened on the affected side and the car is hoisted into the air
The brake caliper is unbolted from the hub and removed from its mounting spot 
The brake lines are disconnected from caliper, making sure to catch all spilt brake fluid
The brake pads can be removed if still in good condition and fitted to the new calipers
The brake line is connected to the new caliper and the new caliper is mounted and bolted to the hub 
The brakes are bled and the wheels refitted
The mechanic will then road test the car to check performance

Brake Caliper Replacement

Mechanic assesses which sensor/’s are failing 
Wheel is loosened and the car is lifted on a hoist
The sensor connector is disconnected 
The sensor is removed 
If the sensor is part of the hub assembly then it will need to be replaced as part of the whole assembly
The new sensor is fitted and tested
The wheel is refitted and the car is dropped down off of the hoist
The  mechanic will check all codes are cleared and perform a road test to ensure that everything is working correctly

ABS/Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement

The wheels are loosened and the car is hoisted into the air. The wheels are then removed and the brake caliper is disconnected from the hub to allow access to the rotor. The rotor is then removed from the hub and the new one is installed. The caliper is reconnected to the hub and the pads are bedded against the rotor. The car will then be test driven and returned back to you.

The wheel lug nuts are loosened and the vehicle is hoisted up The wheels are removed and the brake rotors are checked for wear The brake pads are checked for wear The pads and rotors are removed from the wheel hub and caliper New brake pads and rotors are installed and the wheels are put back on The brakes are then bedded in and a full road test is done with varying levels of force and load

Front Brake Pad and Rotor Replacement

Rear Brake Pad and Rotor Replacement

The mechanic will firstly loosen the wheels and hoist the car into the air. The wheels will be removed and the brake drum pried off of the hub. The shoes will be inspected and cleaned as well as the new brake drum. Any other required components will also be cleaned or replaced as needed. The new drum will be fitted and the wheels refitted. The car will be test driven and the new brakes bedded in. 

Brake Drum Replacement

The mechanic will start by loosening the wheels and hoisting the car in the air. The wheels will be taken off and the old hose unclipped from the caliper first with a collector bucket underneath to catch stray fluid. The other end of the line will then be disconnected and the new brake hose will be connected in its place. The braking system will then be bled for any air that got into the lines while they were exposed to the conditions. The car will then be test driven and given the ok to get back on the road.

Brake Hose Replacement

The mechanic will loosen the wheels and hoist the car into the air. The wheels will then be removed and the brake drums taken off of the hubs. The springs and pistons will be disconnected from the shoes and the shoes will be removed. All parts will be cleaned with brake cleaner and then the new shoes will be installed. The drums will be refitted and the wheels refitted also. The car will then undergo an extensive bedding in procedure to mate the new shoes to the drums. 

Brake Shoe Replacement

The mechanic will remove any coverings between them and the master cylinder. They will then disconnect the booster and hard lines from the master cylinder. They will then disconnect the brake line from the cabin and remove the old master cylinder. The new master cylinder will be fitted in its place and the reservoir will be topped up as well as fitting all lines and components. The braking system will then be bled and topped up as required. The car will then be extensively tested to make sure the brakes are in tip top shape and ready for you to use.

Brake Master Cylinder Replacement

Once the wheels are removed the mechanic will inspect the brakes. The drums will need to be removed before the wheel cylinder, which is replaced. At this point it is common to replace the brake shoes.

Once the new parts are installed the system will be topped up with brake fluid and the brakes will be bled to ensure the system is working properly. The mechanic then puts the vehicle's wheels back on and road tests the vehicle.

Brake Wheel Cylinder Replacement

In order to complete a handbrake cable replacement the car needs to be raised so the mechanic can access the bottom of the vehicle. The handbrake cable is released from the handbrake lever by removing the centre console in the car's cabin, then released from the rear brake drums or calipers.

A new cable will be run from the rear brakes (connected at the brakes first), clipped in place under the vehicle, and connected to the handbrake lever or electric motor in the cabin. It’s then tensioned to ensure it is working properly.

Firstly the mechanic will locate the booster assembly on the firewall and remove any coverings to gain access to it. They will then disconnect the brake lines, vacuum lines and master cylinder from the booster. The booster will then be unbolted from the firewall and brake cable and removed. The new booster will be fitted and the brake cable will be reconnected as well as the master, brake lines and vacuum lines. The system will be bled, tested and test driven before being returned to the customer.

Handbrake Shoe Replacement

It's a simple job on some cars and it can be a real pain in others. The mechanic will remove any floor mats or carpets that prevent access to the switchboard. The switch will be disconnected from any wiring and removed to be replaced with a new one and the operation will be tested before returning the car to the customer. The difficulty can come if the switchboard is hidden behind a whole bunch of stuff that will have to be disconnected and then reconnected - this can soak up some labor time.

Stopping is a pretty important part of driving. Your brakes are something you need to depend on, especially when you need them. Brakes

The battery is located and the terminals disconnected. Negative first and positive second. The battery can be lifted out and replaced with the new one. Clean the terminals before refitting to ensure a good connection. Re-cover the battery and you’re good to go.


Car Battery Replacement

First thing the mechanic will do is disconnect the battery (which is standard procedure for anything connected to electricity). To get at the starter motor the car will need to be lifted, where it can be disconnected from the flywheel. To do this the mechanic will disconnect all of the electrical connections before unbolting the starter motor. The process is completed in reverse and tested to ensure that it all works.

Starter Motor Replacement

Replacing a fuse is a simple job. The mechanic will find the fuse box (typically in the engine bay or cabin), and locate the fuse that is in question. Once replaced, the mechanic will test the circuit using a voltage tester to ensure everything is working properly.

Fuse Replacement

The mechanic will open the bonnet and locate the horn. Once the horn is located, they will unclip the connectors and unbolt or unclip the horn from its mounting position. They will then fit the new horn and connect the wiring. The system will be tested and will be good to go in no time.

Horn Replacement

The mechanic will lift the bonnet and remove any engine coverings. They will then locate the intake manifold and the sensor. They will disconnect the wiring from the TPS and unbolt it from the throttle body. The new throttle position sensor will be fitted and calibrated with all connectors refitted. The engine will be tested and different throttles will be tested making sure everything is working as it should.

Throttle Position Sensor Replacement

The mechanic will run the engine and check the output from the alternator as well as the belts powering the alternator. This ensures that it really is just the alternator and not a problem with the car's electrics. If it is the alternator, then the terminals will be disconnected from the battery and the belt tensioner will be loosened. The alternator will be unbolted from the engine and swapped for a new one. The new one is bolted up and the belt connected to. The terminals will be connected to the alternator and the battery will be reconnected. The engine will be started and run to check the output charge from the new alternator.

Alternator Replacement

Firstly the mechanic will remove the engine coverings and locate the coils. Then they will be unclipped from the spark plug and sometimes swapped with another to check if it is just that coil playing up. Once the faulty one is found, it will be removed from its mounting and disconnected from the wiring. The new coil will be connected and the engine will be run. The mechanic will lastly, scan the engine computer and make sure that the fault is gone.

Ignition Coil Replacement

The mechanic will remove the spark plug connector from the spark plug. They will then disconnect the other end from the ignition coil and inspect both ends for damage. The new cable will be measured and cut to size. The fittings on both ends will be connected to the cable and then connected to the plug and coil. The car will then be tested and returned to the customer.

Spark Plug Cable Replacement

The mechanic will run a diagnostic to try and figure out which glow plug is failing. They will then remove any engine coverings and disconnect the connectors and wiring on the back of the glow plug. They will then use a socket to unscrew the glow plugs. The new glow plugs will be fitted and the coverings refitted also. The car will be tested and scanned to ensure everything is working as it should.   

Glow Plug Replacement

The mechanic will disconnect the battery and remove the trim around the ignition barrel. They will then locate the ignition switch and make sure that it hasn’t burnt out or that the connectors are faulty. They will then disconnect the wiring and unscrew the old ignition switch. They will then fit the new switch, connect all wiring and test the new system.

Ignition Switch Replacement

The mechanic will remove any engine coverings preventing access to the sensor. They will then disconnect the wiring from the sensor and unbolt it with any oil overflow cleaned up. The new sensor has some sealant placed around the hole to prevent leaks and is screwed into place. All connectors are hooked up to the sensor and the system is tested. 

Oil Pressure Sensor Replacement

The mechanic will remove the trim around the affected switch. They will most likely check the regulator at the same time. The switch will be unclipped from its holder and the surrounding wiring disconnected. The new switch will have its wiring connected to the switch and be fitted to the holder. The assembly will be tested and then the surrounding trim will be refitted. The car will be ready to return to the customer. 

Power Window Switch Replacement

The mechanic will remove the trim around the switch and unclip it from its holder. The wiring will be disconnected and checked to make sure that it’s still in working condition. The new switch will have the wiring connected and then the assembly will be tested. Once that’s all good, they will clip the switch into the holder. The trim will be refitted and the car is good to go!

Power Mirror Switch Replacement

The mechanic will remove the door trim around the window and remove the inner lining to access the motor. They will then raise the window and disconnect it from the regulator. The regulator will then be disconnected from wiring and the mounting points. The inside of the door will most likely be cleaned as well as the seals. The new regulator will be fitted and connected to the wiring and then hooked up to the window. They will then test the system before refitting all the trim and returning the car to the customer.

Window Regulator Replacement

The mechanic will disconnect the battery and then disconnect the cables. They will then cut new cables to size and fit the required connectors on each end. They will then reconnect the battery and make sure everything is working properly.

A hybrid battery test is a diagnostic procedure that is used to evaluate the performance and condition of a hybrid vehicle's battery. It is performed by our certified technician's using specialised equipment. The test helps to identify any issues with the battery, such as a decrease in capacity or a malfunctioning component, before they cause more significant problems.

Battery & Electrical

Firstly the mechanic will remove any covers or accessories that hinders their ability to access the cambelt. Once removed, they will need to loosen then remove the tensioner and idler pulley, then eventually the cambelt. While the cambelt is off it is a good time for the mechanic to take a look at the water pump. The water pump often runs off the cambelt, and it is generally a good idea to replace the water pump during this process to avoid duplication of costs later on. Once this is completed the mechanic will replace the cambelt with a new one, then reinstall the tensioner, idler pulleys and any covers removed to gain access. Please note, the cost of the cambelt may increase if the tensioner or idler pulleys also need replacing. Finally, the mechanic will test the engine is operating properly.

Cambelt Replacement

The drive belt is held in place by a series of tensioners. When replacing the drive belt the mechanic will check the tensioners for any damage, before replacing the belt and tensioning it properly again. 

Drive Belt Replacement

You should only get a timing chain replacement if your car is acting up. Unlike a cambelt you don't have to replace it every 100,000kms.

The mechanic will need to remove covers and accessories to access the timing chain, located towards the front of the engine. They will release the tension on the timing chain, then remove the camshaft and crankshaft gears. During this process the mechanic should install new tensioners and guides. 

Once a new timing chain is installed the mechanic will ensure they are aligned to the same position as previous, then reinstall the covers and accessories, before testing the engine.

Timing Chain Replacement

The mechanic will remove any components that get in the way of the belts, the tensioner will then be loosened to allow the belt to be pulled off. The belt will likely be replaced at the same time. The tensioner will then be unbolted from the bracket and a new one installed in its place. The belts will be reconnected and the tensioner adjusted to keep the belts taut. The engine will be run and the mechanic will check everything is working properly.

Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement

All engine coverings and components in the way of the belts are removed to gain access to the belt assembly. The tensioner is loosened and the belts removed. The idler is then inspected as well as the other pulleys and belts. The idler will then be unbolted and the new one bolted on. The belts will be refitted to the pulleys and the tensioner will be reset to tighten the belts. The engine will then be run and checked before all coverings are refitted.

Belts are a useful thing for keeping your pants up, they’re also pretty useful in your engine too. Belts

The wheels on your car are loosened and the car is hoisted into the air. The wheels are then removed for each corner that is getting a new absorber and the absorber is unbolted from the suspension and removed. The new absorber is installed and the wheels put back on. The car is then tested to make sure the spring rate is perfect and the car is test driven. 

Front Shock Absorber Replacement

The wheels on your car are loosened and the car is hoisted into the air. The wheels are then removed for each corner that is getting a new absorber and the absorber is unbolted from the suspension and removed. The new absorber is installed and the wheels put back on. The car is then tested to make sure the spring rate is perfect and the car is test driven.

Rear Shock Absorber Replacement

Your mechanic will first confirm the faulty bearing by doing a simple spin check, they will then unbolt the wheel and remove the wheel hub assembly. The old bearing will be pressed out of the hub using a hydraulic press. The bearing mounting surface will be cleaned and a new bearing pressed in. The hub assembly is then good to be refitted to the car and will be bolted back on. The wheel will then be bolted back on too and a quick test performed to check that everything is working properly.

Wheel Bearing Replacement

- Loosen wheel lug nuts and hoist the car to a workable height
- Remove the wheel/’s on the side/’s that need replacing
- They will locate the tie rod and examine the surrounding components
- Slide the rubber boot away to access the tie rod end and disconnect it
- Fit the new tie rod end and reconnect it to the steering knuckle
- Ensure all torque specs are correct and boot is fitted properly
- Refit the wheel and lower the vehicle back down
- Align the front wheel
- Test drive the car to confirm everything is working as it should

Tie Rod End Replacement

The mechanic will hoist the car up and then remove both front wheels. The tie rods are disconnected from the steering knuckles and the power steering fluid is drained and hoses disconnected. All connecting bolts and lines will be removed to allow the rack to come out. The steering column is disconnected from the rack and the rack is removed through the underneath of the car. The new power steering rack is fitted and column reconnected. The hoses and lines are reconnected and the power steering fluid is topped off. A basic alignment is made with the tie rods and then they are secured. The power steering is checked, wheels bolted on and the car is lowered off the hoist. The front wheels will be aligned and the car started and run to check for any leaks or issues. A test drive will be completed and the steering put through various loads to check performance

Power Steering Rack Replacement

The mechanic will first diagnose the problem and identify what needs to be fixed. They will then disconnect the battery and make sure the airbag is not charged before removing it from the wheel. They can then remove the steering wheel and any other shroudings around the steering column to get access to it. They will then disconnect the column, and remove it in pieces to resolve the problem. They will then reverse this process and make sure to test the airbag before returning the car to the customer. 

Steering Column Replacement

The mechanic will loosen the wheels before hoisting the car in the air. Once suspended, they will remove the wheels and loosen the top struts as well as removing the front sway bar if required. They will then remove the old CV boot and assess the joint. Most of the time the joint will need to be replaced also. They will then thoroughly clean the CV joint and surrounding parts before re-greasing and fitting the new CV boot. They will then reconnect all struts, sway bars and wheels and lower the car down. They will then test drive it and give it one more check.

CV Boot Replacement

The mechanic will find the at fault bush and disconnect any mountings or impediments to access the bush. They will then disconnect the bush and inspect the surface before cleaning the bush mount and greasing up components if required. They will install the new bushing and you’ll be on your way.

Suspension Bushes Replacement

The mechanic will drain the power steering fluid from the system and remove coverings in the way of the pump itself. They will then get the tension out of the drive belt and take the belt off the pump. The pump will then be disconnected from the feed lines, return lines and any wiring or connectors. The pump can then be disconnected from its mounts and the new power steering pump fitted in its place. The hoses, wiring and belts will be reconnected and the power steering fluid refilled. The system will be test run to make sure everything is working properly.

Power Steering Pump Replacement

It’s a complicated job and it’s one that you need to get right. It’s best left to a qualified mechanic near you. 

They will start by loosening the wheel on the affected side and then hoisting the car up to get access. They will remove the wheel and loosen or remove the sway bar as well as loosen the top struts. They will then unbolt the wheel-axle and carefully push the CV one way and then the other to remove it. They will swap any required seals or ABS sensors across to the new assembly and fit the new assembly. All required components will be bolted up and the sway bar and top struts reset. The wheel will be refitted and then a test drive will be conducted to make sure everything works as it should. 

CV Joint Replacement

The mechanic will usually disconnect the bottom hose and uncap the reservoir to drain the fluid. They will then flush and clean the system by refilling it with new fluid. Once the system is clean and the fluid is clear, the hose will be reconnected and the system bled of air. The pump will then be tested and the car returned to the customer.

Power Steering Fluid Replacement

The mechanic will unbolt the wheels on the affected side and hoist the car up. They will then compress the spring and disconnect it from the mounts. The new spring is fitted and uncompressed to sit against the top and bottom bushes on the mounts. The wheel is refitted and the car will need to be aligned as the suspension has been changed. The car will be test driven afterwards and bounce checked. 

Suspension Spring Replacement

The mechanic will drain the system of the power steering fluid and disconnect the fittings on both ends of the hose. The new hose will be fitted and checked. The reservoir will be refilled and the system will be bled of all air. 

Power Steering Pressure Hose Replacement

Firstly the mechanic will remove the wheels from the bearings they want to check. Then the hub is removed to allow access to the bearings. They will then remove the bearings and any grime, dirt or grease and clean the bearings and mounting surface. The bearings will be regreased and pressed into the shells. They will be reinstalled and the hubs refitted. The wheels will be refitted and the car is ready to go.

Check And Repack Wheel Bearings

The mechanic will loosen the wheels in the affected locations and lift the vehicle. The wheels will then be removed, as well as the control arms and steering knuckle or CV joint. The ball joint may be swapped out and resealed with a new boot, but in most cases a new assembly will be installed. The control arms, steering knuckle or CV joint will be refitted and the wheels refitted. A wheel alignment will be performed and the car tested before being returned to the customer.

Ball Joint Replacement

The wheel on the side of the strut that needs to be replaced will be removed and the car hoisted into the air. The brake lines and connecting steering components will be disconnected. The bottom mount is then unbolted and the top mount is unbolted as well. The strut assembly will then be removed from the car and the new one fitted in place. All connecting components will be refitted and the brake lines bled. A wheel alignment will be done and the car will be bounce tested and test driven. 

Strut Assembly Replacement

The mechanic will loosen the wheels and undo the bolts inside the engine bay on the affected sides and hoist the car up. They will then unbolt the entire strut from the vehicle and remove it. The springs will be compressed to take the load off the top mount and then the top mount can be removed. The new mount will be put in place and the strut reconnected to the lower mounting position and lined up with the top. The wheels will be put back on and lowered down. The wheels will then be tightened as well as the bolts for the top mount. The car will be test driven and may be given a wheel alignment if required.

Strut Top Mount Replacement

The power steering lines will be disconnected and the remaining fluid drained out of the reservoir. The old reservoir will be unbolted from its mounting and the new reservoir will be installed in its place. The lines will be reconnected to the new reservoir and the fluid topped off. The system will be bled and tested before returning the car to the customer. 

Power Steering Reservoir Replacement

The mechanic will hoist the car up and locate the faulty links. They will then unbolt the links from the control arms and remove the sway bar. The links will be disconnected from the sway bar and the new one fitted with new bushings. The new links will be connected to the control arms and the car lowered down ready to go.

Suspension & Steering

The bonnet is lifted and the spark plugs are located - Some newer models require the intake manifold to be removed to access the plugs - The ignition cable is unplugged - The spark plug is unbolted with a spark plug socket and removed - The new spark plug is bolted into the socket and the ignition cable is reconnected - A diagnostic or road test is performed to ensure everything is in working order

Spark Plug Replacement

The air filter is located either through the air con, firewall or the glove box/passenger footwell. The filter is removed as well as any other debris. The new filter is fitted and the access is closed up after testing.

Cabin Filter Replacement

The air filter is located, usually inside the airbox, the filter will be disconnected. In some cases the filter can be cleaned with detergent and blown out with compressed air. If not, then the new filter is connected and tested.

Air Filter Replacement

Your filters make sure you and your car get the clean air you need and the spark plugs make sure it’s all ignited properly. Some filters are there for comfort but some are also key to making the engine run properly. The spark plugs are essential to the engine’s operation. Filters & Sparks

A windscreen chip repair requires an expert to work their magic. They will clean and assess the area to remove any loose dirt and glass. They’ll then fix a positioning device to inject the right amount of resin in a vacuum. This will happen multiple times to ensure all air is removed and replaced by glass resin. A UV light is then used to cure the resin before the windscreen is cleaned and polished. Easy!

Windscreen Chip Repair

Your glassier will remove the rubber trim and sealant around the outside of the windscreen, then, usually with support, lift out the old windscreen using especially designed suction tools. The new windscreen is then fitted in the reverse order.  

Windscreen Replacement

Similar to the front windscreen, your glassier will remove the rubber trim and sealant around the outside of the window, then lift out the old window using especially designed suction tools. The new windscreen is then fitted in the reverse order and appropriate rubbers and sealants added.

Rear Window Replacement

Lift both the wiper blades up off of the windscreen Release the clips that hold the blades in place Some models the wiper blade can then be slid off of the arm The new wiper blade is slid into the same position as the old one Lower the arm back onto the windscreen Test operation and adjust the blade as needs be

Wiper Blade Replacement

If the tint is old and is being removed due to deterioration this can usually lead to separation of the adhesive and the laminate. The tint would need to be separated from the window as best as possible, then using a hard plastic scraper and cleaning solution, the window would be cleaned of all remaining adhesive.  

If you are preemptively removing your tint, it can be far easier as the laminate and adhesive will still be bonded. In this case simply pulling the tint away from the window with a cleaning agent sprayed into the gap to ensure a clean removal.

Window Tint Removal

If it’s set in place and doesn’t move, then the mechanic will trim the seal around the window and pull the old window out. They will then clean the old window surround and re-lay the window gasket. They will then fit the new window and make sure it’s sealed. 

If it’s a window that moves, the mechanic will remove any trim and coverings preventing access to the window. The window will be removed as well as any shards of glass or dirt inside the window regulator. The mechanic will then fit the new window and most likely replace the window rubbers at the same time.

Side Window Replacement

Car Window Tinting

The mechanic will open the bonnet and locate the wiper motor. It’s usually under a cowling or covering just in front of the windscreen. They will then disconnect it from the wiring and wiper arm. They will inspect the motor, wiring, adapter, linkage and mounting. They will then fit the new wiper motor, linkages, wiring and adapters. The cowling and coverings will be refitted and the assembly tested at all speeds. 

Wiper Motor Replacement

Glass & Wipers

- Firstly, all engine oil is drained by unscrewing the oil drain plug, and checked to make sure no metals are in the oil
- The sump pan itself is unbolted from the engine and gasket removed
- The oil pump is found, disconnected from all oil lines, and removed
- The new oil pump is fitted and lines reconnected
- The sump is refitted along with a new gasket
- The engine is filled with the correct amount of oil and checked for leaks at temperature.

Oil Pump Replacement

Firstly the filter is located and the pressure let out of the fuel system. The fuel lines are then disconnected from the filter and the filter is removed. The new one is installed and the lines reconnected before purging the air out of the system. The car will then be started and checked for leaks.

New Fuel Filter

The mechanic will start by draining the oil and coolant from the engine. They will then unbolt everything attached to the head gasket (quite a lot of things in modern cars). They will then unbolt the cylinder head and remove it from the engine. While the heads are being cleaned the mechanic will lift the old head gasket off and scrape off any residue. Once the surface is clean and level, the mechanic will fit the new head gasket with any sealant in required areas. The heads will be refitted and torqued to spec. All components will be reattached and the oil and coolant refilled. After all that ordeal they will bring the engine up to running temperature and you’ll be good to go.

Head gasket replacement

All connected belts are loosened and disconnected, usually done by releasing the tensioner
The centre bolt which connects the balancer to the crankshaft is undone and removed
A wedge or pulley can be used to disconnect the balancer from the engine block, being careful not to damage any surrounding components
The mounting surface is cleaned and the new balancer is fitted and centre bolt refitted
All connecting belts are aligned and fitted and the tensioner is refitted and tightened
The engine is started and checked to ensure everything is as smooth as it should be 

Harmonic Balancer Replacement

The mechanic will open the bonnet to access the exhaust manifold. They will then disconnect the hose from the turbocharger and replace it with a new one. They will then pressure test the system and make sure that the fittings are working as they should.

Wastegate Hose Replacement

The mechanic will hoist the vehicle and disconnect any fuel lines or wiring. They will then unbolt the tank from its mounting position and remove the fuel pump if applicable. They will then insert the new tank and bolt it into place with the fuel pump. The lines and float will be reconnected and the tank will be pressure tested. Once the tank is deemed safe, they will refill it with fuel and the tank will be good to go.

Fuel Tank Replacement

The mechanic will remove any engine coverings and anything else in the way of the heads. The valve covers will be unbolted and removed from the heads and cleaned. The roller-rocker arms and pushrods will be removed to allow access to the hydraulic lifters. The lifters will then be removed from the camshaft and replaced with pre-oiled new lifters. The pushrods and roller-rockers will be reinstalled and then the valve covers. Then all the engine toppings will be refitted and the car will be test run. 

Hydraulic Lifter Replacement

It’s a big job because there’s a bunch of stuff that needs to come off to access the front cover. The standard fluids will be drained and the radiator, water pump, power steering pump and any other belts will be disconnected. The front cover will then be unbolted and removed. The gasket surface will be scraped clean as well as the front cover surface. The new gasket will be fitted and the front cover rebolted. The other components will be refitted and the oil and coolant refilled. The car will be run and checked over before returning it to the customer.

Front Cover Oil Leak Repair

Luckily this is a job that isn’t too tricky. The mechanic will hoist the vehicle up in the air and support the engine from underneath. Once the engine is supported the engine mounts can be unbolted and removed. The new bushes will be installed and the motor bolted to the mounts. The support will be removed and the car will be lowered back to the ground and returned to the customer.

Engine Mount Replacement

Your engine is the most important part of your car in our opinion. If there’s something wrong with your engine then a small repair cost can balloon out to a big one in no time.
