How a Engine Inspection works with My Auto Shop:

Our qualified mechanic will look to complete a thorough inspection of your vehicle's engine using the information or symptoms you have provided via the My Auto Shop platform. To complete this the mechanic will usually start by plugging into your OBDII port and completing a complete diagnostic scan. This will highlight any error or warning codes your vehicle has and will provide the mechanic with information they. need to fix your problem.

Depending on the symptoms the mechanic will take a good look at your vehicles:
- Drive & timing belts (cambelt, serpentine belts);
- Camshaft & crankshaft;
- Spark plugs; or
- Oil pan.

Before completing any repairs the mechanic will complete a quote and look for your approval.

When your vehicle is hard to shift its often as a result of a:

  • Transmission Fluid Leak
  • Failing Transmission Solenoids
  • Dirty or Contaminated Transmission Fluid
  • Failing Transmission
  • Bad Shifter Cable
  • Worn Out Clutch

Popular services linked to a Engine Inspection:

Idler Pulley Replacement

The idler pulley is a component that doesn’t power anything but it makes sure that things can be powered correctly. Your drive belts power things like power steering, alternators, water pumps etc. The idler pulley makes sure that all of these can be powered as they should and that all the required belts stay where they should.

Cambelt Replacement

Also known as a “timing belt” the cambelt ensures the engine values open and close at the correct time by ensuring the camshaft and crankshaft in the engine remain aligned. The belt, made from reinforced rubber, is tensioned between a series of pulleys and tensioners, making sure that the belt does not slip and that it remains aligned, for optimum engine performance. Some vehicles have a timing chain that replaces the cambelt. Timing chains are more reliable and therefore need replacing less often, but are more complicated to replace if they become damaged.

Exhaust Repair

An exhaust pipe is responsible for carrying combustion gases out of your car. More technically it connects from the exhaust manifold to the muffler. It is usually made out of steel but they can also be stainless steel or aluminized steel. Because of the acids and gaese the exhaust pipe carries it is one of the few parts on your car that wears even when the car is not running.

Fuel Pump Replacement

In order to get fuel from your fuel tank to your engine, your car uses a fuel pump. The fuel pump is either mechanical - run off the engine or electric - run off electricity. Some fuel pumps are located inside or very close to the tank. Others are located in the engine bay or attached to the engine itself. Without the fuel pump, your car won’t work.
