If your engine is backfiring My Auto Shop can get it sorted with a Engine Inspection. Simply leave as many details about the issue as you can and we will contact local MTA approved mechanics that are qualified to fix the underlying issue. We'll email you quotes for an inspection within 2 working days, and where possible provide an indication as to the likely underlying issue(s) and cost to fix. You can book directly on the My Auto Shop platform in minutes.
Our qualified mechanic will look to complete a thorough inspection of your vehicle's engine using the information or symptoms you have provided via the My Auto Shop platform. To complete this the mechanic will usually start by plugging into your OBDII port and completing a complete diagnostic scan. This will highlight any error or warning codes your vehicle has and will provide the mechanic with information they. need to fix your problem.
Depending on the symptoms the mechanic will take a good look at your vehicles:
- Drive & timing belts (cambelt, serpentine belts);
- Camshaft & crankshaft;
- Spark plugs; or
- Oil pan.
Before completing any repairs the mechanic will complete a quote and look for your approval.
Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement
Your engine computer needs to know when it’s time to send a spark through the spark plug, it does this with the information from the camshaft position sensor. The CPS tells the engine computer the exact right time to ignite the air/fuel mixture and makes sure your engine runs as flawlessly as possible.
Accelerator Cable Replacement
A lot of cars used to trust a steel cable to transmit inputs to the accelerator to the engine. Modern cars use a drive-by-wire system. Over time the cable will need adjusting as it stretches. In some rare cases, if you’re a real fast and furious driver, it can snap and require replacing.
Drive Belt Replacement
Also known as the “V belt” (or serpentine belt), the drive belt transfers “drive” to your air conditioning, alternator and power steering while the engine is going. Many cars have multiple drive belts, depending on the number of accessories fitted to the vehicle’s engine, and these belts are connected to the crankshaft pulley, which turns the belt creating power. As the belt drives the alternator (amongst other things), which in turn charges the vehicle’s battery, the drive belt plays a critical role in the function of your engine.
Coolant Level Sensor Replacement
If you aren’t super mechanically minded, you probably don’t check your coolant that often. Lucky for you, your coolant level sensor does that for you. If it fails, you won’t be reminded to top off your coolant. If you forget to do that, you can overheat your engine and that can lead to a bunch of issues down the track.
