Renault Radiator Bottom Hose Replacement

In order to send your cooled coolant from the radiator to the engine, it has to travel through the radiator bottom hose. This hose is prone to wearing out over time, this is due to the constant pressure and heat cycles. You don’t want coolant going on the ground instead of the engine, so get the bottom hose fixed as soon as possible.

What is a radiator bottom hose?

The radiator bottom hose is made out of a synthetic rubber type material that is shaped to match up with the outlet and inlets. It is typically reinforced with kevlar braiding or metal wires to help it hold its shape under high heats. It carries coolant from the radiator to the engine. A short distance but a very important one.

Why does your Renault need a radiator bottom hose?

Your engine needs cooled coolant to help it run as it should. If the hose splits or leaks then you can overheat your motor and damage your engine. Don’t risk it, if the hose needs replacing, replace it.

How to tell if you need a new radiator bottom hose

If the hose is cracked or leaking, then it needs to be replaced. If you can squeeze the hose and it doesn’t spring back into place, then it needs to be replaced.

What’s involved in getting a radiator bottom hose replaced?

The mechanic will hoist the vehicle up and drain the coolant. They will then undo the hose clamps that hold the hose to the radiator outlet and water pump inlet and remove the hose. The new hose will be fitted and the hose clamps securing the hose fitted. The coolant will be refilled and then the cooling system will be pressure tested. Once the motor is up to temperature and no leaks are detected, the car is ready to go.

How much does a Renault radiator bottom hose replacement cost?

Most of the cost comes from the coolant drain and labor time. Expect prices to range from $125 to over $350.

How often do I need a radiator bottom hose replaced?

It’s not really based on kilometers driven, it will need replacing every 5 to 7 years. Due to the heat cycles and wear and tear, they wear out pretty regularly.

Is a broken radiator bottom hose unsafe?

It can lead to overheating and engine damage. Rather than foot the bill for that, get the hose replaced as soon as it’s needed.
