Fiat Radiator Top Hose Replacement

In order for your hot coolant to make it back to your radiator, it has to flow through a thick rubber hose. This is the radiator top hose. Over time, due to the pressure of the cooling system, the high heats from the coolant, and general wear and tear, the hose breaks down and will need to be replaced.

What is a radiator top hose?

Typically made out of a synthetic material and strengthened with kevlar braid or even metal wire. This helps the hose to hold its shape under high temperatures. There are typically hose clamps holding the hose to the radiator and to the engine.

Why does your Fiat need a radiator top hose?

It carries important, hot coolant from the engine to the radiator. If it leaks then you can overheat your engine and cause a whole world of problems. It’s a simple hose with a very important job.

How to tell if you need a new radiator top hose?

If the hose is split or cracked and leaking then it’s time for a new one. If you can squeeze the hose without it springing back into shape, then it’s time to replace it.

What’s involved in getting a radiator top hose replaced

The mechanic will first drain the coolant before undoing the hose clamps and removing the hose. The new hose will be fitted and clamped into place. The coolant will be refilled and the system will be extensively pressure tested at temperature.

How much does a Fiat radiator top hose cost?

They aren’t too expensive, usually with labour the bill will be around $100 to $300

How often do I need a radiator top hose replaced?

It isn’t so much about kilometers travelled but age. Typically they won’t last longer than 6 or 7 years.

Is a broken radiator top hose unsafe?

It can lead to your car overheating and breaking so we think so. If there’s a problem with the hose, you should get it fixed as soon as possible.
