Window Tint Removal

Window tinting is a pretty neat thing to have, as we explain here.

If your window tint isn’t looking too crash hot, and needs a refresh. Then you’ve got to effectively remove the old tinting to fit the classy new tints.

If your tints have faded, been scratched or have bubbling behind them, it might be time for new ones. It’s also important to check when you buy a new car with tints, whether the tints are legal or else you might have to pre-emptively replace them.

What is window tint removal?

The act of separating the window tints from the inside of the glass in your vehicle and leaving a surface that will provide good bonding for new tints to be fitted.

What symptoms mean you need to remove your window tints?

Any discolouring, fading, bubbling or excessive scratches can warrant new tints to be fitted.

Another as mentioned before is if your tints are legal, if not then you’ll need to remove them straight away.

How to remove window tints

If the tint is old and is being removed due to deterioration this can usually lead to separation of the adhesive and the laminate. The tint would need to be separated from the window as best as possible, then using a hard plastic scraper and cleaning solution, the window would be cleaned of all remaining adhesive.

If you are preemptively removing your tint, it can be far easier as the laminate and adhesive will still be bonded. In this case simply pulling the tint away from the window with a cleaning agent sprayed into the gap to ensure a clean removal.

How much does window tint removal cost?

Typically window tinting specialists will remove your old tints before fitting new ones. In this case you will most likely get a discount on the removal and expect around $50 to $150 to be added to your final bill.

If simply removing the tint and not getting new ones, expect prices to be in the $100 to $300. Depending on call out charges, how much tint there is to remove, and how difficult it is to remove.
