With ownership of electric vehicles (EVs) on the rise, it’s a fair bet that car owners in general are needing to deal with more electrical issues than normal. That’s not to say they’re at all prone to problems – in fact, we’re big fans here at My Auto Shop – it’s just the nature of the beast, as the saying goes.
Whatever car issue you might be facing, we all found it hard to pry ourselves out from the workplace to get our vehicles looked at and repaired. And if it’s not work, there’s always any number of things that you need your car to do. Cue the My Auto Shop remote technician service!
Are mobile auto electricians the same as mobile mechanics/remote technicians?
When it comes to electrical issues, you’re more than likely to need to book an auto electrician to do the work. They’re the experts when it comes to air conditioning repairs and other electrical accessories like dash or reversing cameras, and so forth.
You’ll need to work with an auto electrician if your vehicle requires:
- Alternator, Starter motor and battery replacement
- Dash camera installation
- LED Light Bar and spotlight installation
- Electrical system diagnosis
- Air conditioning service and repairs
- Trailer wiring and electronic brake control
Does electrical work need to be carried out at a workshop?
Great news! Like mobile repairs, the vast number of common jobs can be carried out on site, so you won’t need to visit a workshop. That said, like major repair work, there are cases where having the work done makes sense to take place at a workshop. That’s generally when things need to be disassembled and put back together.

Mobile auto electricians generally require similar working environments to remote technicians. A flat, level area that doesn’t have a lot of foot or motor traffic, and protected from the elements. Generally a covered car park works well, but check with management if you live in an apartment building or are considering having the work completed at your workplace.
It’s always good to remember you’ll need 2 car park spaces at a minimum (for your vehicle and the mobile auto electrician’s van or truck), so a bit of space is required. Make sure there’s good clearance room, and access to a powerpoint is good too.
If you’re experiencing any issues described above, you’ll want to get it looked at right away by a mobile auto electrician. If you’re unsure, one of our My Auto Shop remote technicians can visit your home or workplace to diagnose the issue before they point you in the right direction. Head on over to the service area to get started and we’ll see you there.
