ABS/Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement

These sensors have a pretty important job to do. These sensors tell your car how fast the wheels are rotating, this is then checked against the vehicle speed. If one wheel is spinning faster than the others then the ABS module will apply the brakes to that wheel to slow it down. If the wheel is registered as spinning slower or not spinning at all, then the ABS module will take steps to stabilise the wheel.

A drum brake consists of a ‘drum’ looking iron bowl which sits behind the wheel and spins at the same speed. Inside this drum are two shoes which are pushed against the inside of the spinning drum. The resulting friction is what slows the car down.

Brake Caliper Replacement

The brake caliper is what slows your car down when you push on the brake pedal. It uses the magics of hydraulics to force the brake pad up against the brake rotor. This friction of the two is what slows the wheel and the car down.

Unless you’re a real racer on the streets, your brake calipers should only need to be changed if something goes wrong. They aren’t something that normally wears out, that’s what the brake pads and rotors are designed for.
